Michael Ringier was born 1949 in Zofingen, Switzerland. Together with his sister Evelyn Lingg-Ringier, he is the owner of Ringier AG, with Marc Walder and Mobiliar as minority shareholders. In 1973, he began working as a journalist at the Münchner Abendzeitung and completed the first course at the in-house Ringier School of Journalism in 1974. After various editorial positions within the family media company, he moved to Heinrich Bauer Verlag in Hamburg in 1976. Subsequently, he worked for the business editorial team of 'Stern' and conceptualized the magazine 'impulse,' where he led the 'Business Administration and Companies' department in the Cologne editorial office starting in 1980. In 1983, he joined the management of Ringier and became the President of the Directorate two years later. From 1991 to 1997, he served as Chairman of the Board. In 1997, he stepped down and took over the operational leadership of Ringier, only to reassume the position of Chairman of the Board in 2003. Michael Ringier is a passionate and renowned collector and promoter of contemporary art. Parts of his private art collection, one of the most significant in Europe, is on display at the Ringier Pressehaus in Zurich.
