Thomas Benkö appointed AI Innovation Lead Newsroom

Know-how for the future. Thomas Benkö (48) will become the new AI Innovation Lead in the Blick newsroom on September 1st. In this role, he will examine possible ways of using artificial intelligence (AI) in daily editorial work - and develop possible applications with the digital and product teams. To ensure the efficient implementation of the tools along the Ringier AI guidelines, Benkö will also raise journalists' awareness of possible threats and opportunities and train them in the use of AI.

Thomas Benkö started as digital editor at the Blick Group in 2000. After building up the evening newspaper “Heute,” he became a page editor at “Blick am Abend ” in 2008 and was later appointed deputy editor-in-chief. Since 2018, he has been leading the online presence of Blick.ch as Teamlead Digital.

Sandro Inguscio, Editor-in-Chief Blick.ch & Blick TV: “With Thomas, we are not only gaining a digital expert for this fundamentally important topic, but we can also build on the know-how of a long-standing employee who knows the newsroom, the colleagues, the processes and the challenges very well.”

Thomas Benkö: “I like to be at the intersection of innovation and journalism. Like the Internet, AI is not a trend that will eventually disappear, but a technology that is here to stay. AI offers a lot of potential, and I’m happy to be able to help make my colleagues’ work a little easier in the future – so that they have more time for expanding their creativity and conducting research.”
