The management of Ringier Romania announces that Libertatea, a well-known and respected media institution beyond the borders of the country, with a history of more than 30 years, will further expand its digital offer while executing internal cost-cutting measures to ensure a sustainable future for the company after seeing a decline of Libertatea’s print sales by 64 % since 2018.
Digital revenues, meanwhile, have grown to outweigh print revenues and are on a growth trajectory. Ringier Romania`s management, in agreement with Ringier AG, the main shareholder, has accordingly decided to embark on a strategic shift towards digital.
As a central part of the transition, an assessment of the editorial team will be conducted to identify the necessary steps to build a digital-focused newsroom. Three employees within the organization will be immediately affected by this strategic change. In the future, the sports section of Libertatea will be served by GSP.ro, the leading sports media brand in Romania, to better serve the sports audience.
Libertatea will continue to provide the quality journalism that readers expect within the new setup and will further invest in outstanding content and an exceptional product – in digital and print.
