On Saturday, the Hans Ringier Foundation awarded Donald Tusk the “European Prize for Political Culture“. The jury paid tribute to Donald Tusk as a great European statesman and for his personal political commitment to his country making Poland a great, united European nation that will be instrumental in shaping the future of the European Union.

Jean-Claude Trichet, former President of the European Central Bank and winner of the award in 2010, honoured the 55-year old Donald Tusk with a very warm laudatory speech.

The prize of the Hans Ringier Foundation was presented by journalist Frank A. Meyer at the traditional “Dîner républicain” at Castello del Sole in Ascona (Switzerland). 

For 36 years the “Dîner républicain” has taken place on the occasion of the International Film Festival of Locarno. The guests attending the award presentation included Swiss Federal President Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, Swiss Federal Councillor Alain Berset , Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, French Senator Richard Yung,  Jacques Barrot, Member of the French Constitutional Council, Norbert Röttgen, Member of the German Bundestag (CDU Party), Sigmar Gabriel, Head of the German SPD Party, as well as the former German Foreign Minister, Hans-Dietrich Genscher and former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder.
