Ringier: International Editorial Mission Statement and International Editorial and Innovation Board

The Board of Directors of Ringier AG has adopted an Editorial Mission Statement that will now be introduced globally as a binding guideline for journalistic work across all of its 110 media brands.

«As a media and technology company, we have a social responsibility. With around 110 media brands in 11 countries, it is of vital importance for us to have a coherent Editorial Mission Statement that applies equally to all media brands and all editorial teams. For this purpose, in February 2023 the Board of Directors tasked Ladina Heimgartner, Head of Global Media and CEO of the Blick Group, to work together with a task force to develop a Group-wide journalistic mission statement,» says Michael Ringier, Publisher and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ringier AG.

The Editorial Mission Statement solidifies the Ringier Group’s shared understanding of journalism that informs, entertains, establishes trust, and is dedicated to the values of democracy, human dignity and freedom. It defines the values that guide the journalists in their work and editorial decisions on all Ringier markets and for all media brands: excellence, truth, openness, independence, responsibility, audiences and respect.

Furthermore, the Ringier International Editorial Standards and Innovation Board is being launched simultaneously with Ringier’s Editorial Mission Statement. This board focuses on Ringier’s publications and assesses and encourages leadership and innovation. The Ringier International Editorial Standards and Innovation Board is chaired by Michael Ringier and is made up of Ringier Board of Directors member Nancy Cruickshank, CEO of Ringier AG Marc Walder, Head of Global Media of Ringier AG Ladina Heimgartner, CEO of Ringier Axel Springer Schweiz AG Alexander Theobald, Chief Innovation Officer of Ringier AG Petra Ehmann, the Head of the Ringier School of Journalism Peter Hossli, the external, internationally active media expert Dmitry Shishkin, and the journalist and for many years CEO of Gruner & Jahr as well as RTL Germany Stephan Schäfer.

Moreover, in Switzerland, Publisher’s Invite with Michael Ringier, an internal event series focused on creating a dialogue on journalism, has also been launched.

«Journalism is a challenging, rapidly evolving profession, and our mission statement reflects our shared understanding and best practices and standards in the industry,» says Ladina Heimgartner, Head of Global Media and CEO of the Blick Group.
