Ringier appoints Jens Berndt as new Head of Group Data

Ringier has appointed Jens Berndt as the new Head of Group Data, emphasizing its commitment to leveraging the transformative power of artificial intelligence and data-driven innovation for its diverse portfolio in media, sports media, and digital marketplaces.

Jens Berndt brings a wealth of experience as a Chief Digital Officer to Ringier. Among other roles, he served as CTO at Ifolor and SMG Swiss Marketplace Group, where he successfully drove technological progress and digital transformation. He also significantly contributed to growth and innovation at Homegate and Immobilien Scout in Germany.

Jens Berndt will report directly to Kilian Kämpfen, Chief Technology & Data Officer of Ringier AG and member of the Group Executive Board. He succeeds Merlin Bauer, Head of Data Platforms, who will leave Ringier at the end of April 2025 after six years to pursue new challenges outside the company.

In the age of artificial intelligence, the alignment of technology infrastructures and data ontologies is crucial for scalable and sustainable growth. Since the launch of Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) in May last year, Ringier has made remarkable progress in harmonizing its technology and data frameworks to ensure the efficiency, scalability and value of its platforms, products and services for customers and partners. This important work will continue and intensify in the future to further strengthen and expand Ringier’s position as a leading international media and digital marketplace company.

Kilian Kämpfen, Chief Technology & Data Officer: “I warmly welcome Jens at this pivotal stage in our company’s development. His extensive experience and proven track record in technology leadership make him the ideal candidate to drive our data and technology initiatives, particularly as we harness the power of AI to enhance journalism, expand digital marketplaces and revolutionize sports media. At the same time, I would like to thank outgoing Head of Data Platforms, Merlin Bauer, for his work, in particular for leading the Data Platforms division and playing a crucial role as program manager in implementing Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) in our group.

With this appointment of Jens Berndt, Ringier underscores its commitment to AI and data-driven solutions, reaffirming its role as a shaper of the future for data-driven media brands and digital marketplaces. The company is determined to drive cross-platform innovation, optimize user experience, and create value for all stakeholders in the dynamic digital landscape.
