New attendance record for women’s ice hockey in Zurich – EqualVoice, Blick and ZSC Lions send a strong signal for visibility

Zurich's women's ice hockey scene set a historic milestone on Saturday, January 24: The championship game between the ZSC Lions Frauen and EV Zug was watched by 4,997 spectators in the arena. This set a new league record in the PostFinance Women's League and marked a significant achievement for women's ice hockey in Switzerland, particularly in Zurich.

A total of 3,920 tickets had already been sold in advance. The previous record of 4,136 spectators was set on March 15, 2025 (playoff semi-final EV Zug vs. HC Davos Ladies). Before that, the HC Fribourg-Gottéron Ladies held the record with 3,037 spectators.

Annabella Bassler, CFO Ringier and founder of EqualVoice: “What we experienced on Saturday is more than just a well-attended game. It is a strong signal for the growing relevance, increasing visibility, and societal recognition of women’s ice hockey in Switzerland.”

EqualVoice as a content framework
The record-breaking game was part of a joint event by EqualVoice, Blick, and the ZSC Lions, aiming to combine top athletic performance with the overarching issues of visibility, role models, and sustainable structures in women’s sports. The focus was on several EqualVoice panel discussions, featuring speakers such as Kathrin Lehmann (former national ice hockey and soccer player, sports expert, SIHF board member), Florence Schelling (PWHL podcast host, board member of I Believe in You AG, keynote speaker, Olympic & World Championship medalist), Roger Gemperle (CMO of ZSC Lions AG & member of the Executive Board), Nicole Vandenbrouck (ice hockey reporter for Blick), Tamara Raich (CEO & founder of the Athena21 Foundation), Dr. Nora Wieloch (Senior Physician in Sports Medicine at Balgrist University Hospital), Andreas Badertscher (medical supervisor for GCK Lions), Monika Waidacher (Head Women’s Teams ZSC Lions), Lea Eberle (CFO Ringier Media Switzerland & COO of EqualVoice), and Annabella Bassler (CFO Ringier and founder of EqualVoice).

A signal far beyond sports
The fact that the league record has now been broken in Zurich is no coincidence, but rather a reflection of a clear development: women’s ice hockey is gaining audience, relevance, and appeal. The joint event by EqualVoice, Blick, and the ZSC Lions not only made this dynamic visible but also concretely demonstrated the potential that lies within this sport – athletically, socially, and economically. January 24 was therefore not just a record-breaking day, but a benchmark for what becomes possible when visibility is strategically planned and consistently implemented.
