Edit-a-thon expands its partner network to include Somedia – registration for the event on May 6 is now open

The next round of the Edit-a-thon will take place on May 6, 2025 under the motto “For more visibility on Wikipedia”. The 13th edition of the event is dedicated to the theme of "Women in Sport" and is part of the supporting activities of the host city of Zurich for the UEFA Women's EURO 2025. In addition to the existing partners such as the EqualVoice Initiative, ETH Zurich, TX Group, Ringier and Wikimedia CH, Somedia is also on board as a new supporter.

The Edit-a-thon network is expanding to include Somedia, a media company with strong roots in the canton of Graubünden. As a new network partner, Somedia is contributing not only its journalistic expertise but also a geographical expansion for the Wikipedia writing event. In addition to Zurich, the Edit-a-thon will also take place for the first time in Davos and Chur in May 2025. Somedia, an independent family-owned company with strong ties to the population of southeastern Switzerland, is an ideal addition to the existing partner network, which consists of the EqualVoice Initiative, ETH Zurich, TX Group, Ringier and Wikimedia CH.

On May 6, 2025, the 13th Edit-a-thon will take place under the motto “For more visibility on Wikipedia”. This year, the thematic focus is on “Women in Sports”, in line with the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 in Zurich and seven other venues in Switzerland. The event is aimed at anyone interested in writing and gender equality. No prior knowledge is required, as newcomers will receive an introduction to creating Wikipedia articles in advance and will be supported by experienced experts on site.

The aim of the May event is to address the digital underrepresentation of female athletes and thus reduce prejudices in a world increasingly shaped by AI. Participants can submit suggestions for relevant women who have not yet been considered.

Registrations for the Edit-a-thon on May 6, 2025 are now open for the three locations: Ringier Pressehaus in Zurich, the Somedia AG Media House in Chur and the zondacrypto Arena in Davos through the Edit-a-thon website www.editathon.ch. Online participation is also possible. The May event begins at 4:30 p.m. with Wikipedia training. The writing event officially starts at 5:15 p.m. and ends at around 9:00 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. Detailed information will be made available to participants after registration.

In addition to Somedia, other partners are strengthening the Edit-a-thon network. The Swiss association PROWAH (Professional Women of African Heritage) joins as a content partner. The host city of Zurich is an event partner due to its focus on sports.

A special highlight of the 13th Edit-a-thon is its international expansion:
Parallel to the Swiss event, an Edit-a-thon will take place in Hungary for the first time, hosted by Ringier Hungary as part of the EqualVoice Initiative.
